CASE STUDY ELECTRICAL SAVINGS
A central system provided cooling for a large electronics manufacturing company. Cooling water was supplied for three 1200-ton centrifugal chillers and two 1000-HP air compressors. The plant had been maintaining four cycles of concentration on an all-organic phosphonate pH adjusted program.
Results in the chillers were satisfactory with clean heat transfer tubes and corrosion under control. The air compressors, however, required chemical and physical cleaning every four months due to deposit formation. Downtime and high maintenance costs needed to be eliminated.
Trident diagnosed the problem and recommended a new program wherein the pH was lowered and a special stabilized phosphate inhibitor used.
After more than a year of operation, the air compressor system has remained at peak operating efficiency and has not required cleaning. Electrical costs associated with compressor operation have dropped 8%. Lost production and maintenance costs have been reduced. The company has realized overall savings in excess of $178,000.
